ENJOYING GODS PRESENCE
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
The last time that i was up here, i think i delivered a message of who God is in our lives?
Do we see Him as the God of the Bible, or the God that we want Him to be?
How did we come to know who God is? Of course, God used someone to share with us the good news, What is the good news?
1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 It is written in Isaiah the prophet: "I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way"-- 3 "a voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' "
We are all familiar with this story, it is talking about John the baptist preparing the way for our Lord Jesus Christ. It all starts with Jesus, and ends with Jesus. There will always be somebody that God will use to prepare the way for us to know Jesus. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End”. Now, Going back to our previous verse, on Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever”. Its a straight to the point verse, we don’t really have think twice about what it means. Jesus does not change. Of course, outside of the bible what do we really know about Jesus Christ? Nothing! We have come to know Jesus through revelation, He revealed Himself to us. Through scriptures. And because “He chose us, we did not choose Him”.
Ever since the Lord put me up here to preach, i have been watching other preachers online. Thank God for the internet, radio, and TV. Let me tell you, there are a lot of crazies out there who claim to know and preaches about our Lord. Thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit who reminds us of all things.
1 Corinthians 2:9-11
9 However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"-- 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
If we truly belong to God, God does not want us to guess about what lies ahead for us, that is why He has told us a great deal in His words, Scripture, about our future, and why He has given us His Spirit to help us understand what He has, and will reveal these things to us. Of course God will not tell us what will our day will be when we wake up, right! Do you know what your day will be tomorrow? Of course not! We just have to trust that He has that all planned out. He did tell us what will happen in the future, but we just don’t know exactly when. We just know that His plans are perfect! Scriptures tells us that...
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and the Father are one."
The sheep will not follow another mans voice, it knows who it belongs to. And the Good Shepherd will always protect His sheep. “For God knows those who are His”
2 Timothy 2:19
19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
“27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me”.
“The Lord knows those who are His”.
All that we have read so far...all from God, His will, His perfect plan, from the beginning, before the foundations of the world....His plans, not men!
Earlier i spoke about all these crazy preachers on the internet, radio, and TV. Now Jesus did warn us about false prophets, and of course if there are false prophets, there are also deceived believers. If it wasn’t for the last two verses that we read, if it wasn’t for the Good Shepherd, we might follow and believe them! That’s when you change the channel, and never listen to them again!
A few weeks ago i was watching this message on youtube by R.C. Sproul. And i recommend if you have the time please watch it. The title is “If God is Sovereign, how can man be free”. There was a part there where he was explaining who God is, and who we are? God is a Supreme Being, we are human beings...( Adlib )
We will never be in the same level as our God. He is the creator, we are the creature. He is the Potter we are the clay. Never will we be greater than our God. Never!!!
Deuteronomy 4:24 “ For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”
Isaiah 42:8 “ I Am the Lord that is My name! I will not give my glory to another, or My praise to idols”.
Sadly many have forgotten that. Simply because, maybe they claim that they know the bible from cover to cover? A sudden burst of ego, maybe? Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong in knowing scripture, that is what God wants. But it is wrong to claim that we learned the scripture on our own. Not recognizing the revelation from the Creator. Yes! That’s right! Everything that we know has only been revealed by our Lord Jesus Christ!
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
We are all familiar with this verse, it came from the great commission. “go and make disciples’, Jesus commanded. We will be focusing more on the authority part of this verse. Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Him, on earth as it is in heaven”. All, not some. Having this authority means that He is above all things. Above all created things. That will include, you and i. We submit to Him, and not the other way around. Its scary to see when you see a preacher or just a believer telling or commanding God what to do. Like, there is no fear at all, like they are just talking to a regular person. “I claim this by faith”! What do you claim? If you belong to God, you own nothing. God owns you! We cannot even boast about anything, any talent or knowledge? Everything we are, and what we know is from the Lord...
1 Corinthians 1:26-31
26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
Three times God chose... For His purpose. Go through the list of why He chose! “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus”, ...has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption...Our righteousness, from God. Our holiness from God. Our redemption, from God. Everything from God, not man! So, if you want to boast! Boast in the Lord. “ Apart from Him we can do nothing”. Apart from Him we are nothing, we are dead!!! Jesus made us alive! “Supreme Being---Human being”
1 For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles--
2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
“how the mystery was made known to me by revelation”. Who revealed it to Paul? God did! For who? For you and i...”it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by who? By the Spirit. We gentiles are now partakers of the promise...in who? Jesus!!!
Did you notice the first part of Pauls letter? He said that he was a prisoner for Christ Jesus. That’s kind of a weird analogy. Comparing his service as a prisoner. What i mean is, if you think of somebody who is in prison, that person is miserable. Just think of a prison, small cell, four walls. I don’t even know what the prison back then looked like, maybe a dungeon? All dirt, cement, no bed? Do you think he was miserable serving the Lord? And if it was that bad, being a prisoner, why did Paul continue? Here’s on more verse...
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,
Paul called himself, a prisoner, a servant, in another translation, a slave...why do it? Because Paul knew who he belongs to. Who do you want to belong to? There is only two. Belong to God, or belong to the enemy! The best part is we don’t have to choose. We have been chosen.” you did not choose Me, but I chose you” Who chose? God did!!! The title of this message is “ Enjoying Gods Presence”. How can we enjoy Gods presence if we, like Paul, a prisoner, a slave, or a servant for God? What God did for For Paul, the Apostles, and every believer who is called by God, that includes you and i. We enjoy His presence simply because He is our God. He has revealed that to us, we are His. A God who loves us that He gave us His one and only Son! Our Savior. That alone is enough for every believer to follow His voice, to obey His commands. And He is the One that puts that in our hearts, He alone made us new. Every true believers falls in love with the Creator. Why? Because He is good! Supreme Being...Human being. This Supreme Being cared enough to save a wretch like you and me! Let me ask you church, do you enjoy Gods Presence? Yes, we do!!! Even through the bad times, we still enjoy His presence because...He said “I will never leave you, nor forsake you”. I don’t know about you, if i am going through rough times...i am glad that i belong to Him. He will be with me through it all. Call me a prisoner, a slave, a servant. As long as its in Christ, i am happy. Jesus is more than enough for a wretch like me!
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
Paul is simply saying that, whether live or die, he is for Christ. While he is still alive, he will continue to serve, and have fruitful labor. Yet Paul said...”Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far”. Its better because he has finished the race, job well done. No more prisons, no more pain, suffering, no more illness. He is done. He will be in Gods presence. Last verse he said...”but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.” Why would he say that? Because, while he still alive there is still work to be done. If God has chosen you, live or die, He will never let go, He will always be with you!
We all have different backgrounds, we all came from different churches. Whatever God revealed to you and why you left your old church and ended up here. That is God. If you heard the gospel, somebody has shared it with, that is God at work and God has chosen you to receive it. You have been saved, Jesus saved you, not man. Don’t let anybody take that away from you. Because no man can save you only Jesus.Don’t be deceived with the lies. Listen to His voice. Believe that, because He said it. He is our Savior.
15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice.
Remember this verse...
